This is the most amazing prophecy of all because it gives the date of the crucifixion some 500 years before the event.
We are most grateful for the research of Sir Robert Anderson, Deputy Commissioner of Scotland Yard, High Court Barrister and advisor to the cabinet on Counter Terrorism. For an in-depth study of the subject I would recommend his book “The Coming Prince.”
Daniel wrote this prophecy sometime around 540BC and gives a timeline from instruction by Persian Emperor Artaxerxes to rebuild Jerusalem to the killing of the Messiah. In the Hebrew language the word week refers to a seven, that would be seven days, seven months or seven years, and in the context of this passage, refers to 7 years.
“Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command – [CIRCA BC450]
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; [483 YEARS]Daniel 9:25
And after the sixty-two weeks – [AD30]
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;Daniel 9:26
Bear in mind that the Jews just could not believe that the Messiah would be killed but that he would restore Israel’s exalted place among the nations.
Not everyone agrees with Sir Robert Anderson’s research of ancient calendars and his calculations, but there is no doubt that what was prophesied came to pass at around about that time, and clearly that this could only be of God. The chance of the event happening at all together with a timeline of such detail should be sufficient for even the most ardent cynic.
I trust that this has been stimulating and that you will consider looking further into the truth of God’s word until you find God’s plan and purpose for you life.
Thank you for reading.
